APRM holds consolidated launch for inaugural Africa Governance Report, in Nairobi

The continental secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), in collaboration with the Africa Governance Platform (AGA Platform) and Africa Governance Institute (AGI) is set to hold a Consolidated Launch of the 2019 Africa Governance Report (AGR), between 9th and 10th of December, 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya.

In assessing the state of governance in Africa, the inaugural Africa Governance Report (AGR) seeks to provide a basis for tracking governance developments and analyzing trends on the continent. It focuses on five key thematic areas, namely: transformative leadership; constitutionalism and the rule of law; peace, security and governance; the nexus of development and governance; and the role of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in African governance.

It would be recalled that the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government had, on the occasion of its 32nd Ordinary Session held February, 10-11, 2019, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, welcomed and adopted the AGR, as well as urging Member States to consider the report’s recommendations, with a view to enhancing good governance and sharing best practices at both country and continental levels. The AU Assembly further urged Member States to develop national governance reports as a self-assessment tool for promoting good governance in line with the recommendations of the report.

APRM says the objective of the AGR Consolidated Launch, christened the African Governance Report Experts Dialogue and High-Level Town Hall, is to promote public awareness and buy-in of the Report and increase knowledge of pertinent governance issues in Africa. “Specifically, the Consolidated Launch seeks to solicit multi-perspective feedback from stakeholders to promote a shared understanding and ownership of the Report across the continent. Of primary importance will be the generation of practical proposals towards the implementation of the AGR recommendations, while interrogating methodologies and approaches for the next edition of the AGR,” according to APRM.
