Kano PTA inducts new excos across 44 LGAs

As part of efforts to strengthen the effectiveness of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) in ensuring quality education service delivery Kano state, the Kano state chapter of PTA and stakeholders including the Kano State Ministry of Education and Kano State Servicom Directorate Tuesday conducted an induction ceremony for new exco members drawn from across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The induction ceremony which was held with the support of the UK-DFID funded Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) programme was aimed at building the capacity and knowledge of PTA members to effectively carry out their roles and responsibilities and guide them on how to mobilize resources to improve the standards of education in the state.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Nafisa Ado, head of office and regional coordinator of DFID in northern Nigeria told the newly inducted members to prioritize improving the standards of education in the state.

“Education is an issue that should be made a priority among all other issues because there is no development without education; be it religious or Western education,” she said. “What brought us all here is the future of our children and parents are involved because the discipline of children is the [primary] responsibility of parents.”

Abdullahi Musa, permanent secretary at the Kano State Servicom Directorate described the relationship between PTA and Servicom as that of ensuring effective and efficient service delivery in the education sector.

“The agency is charged with the responsibility to ensure that service is delivered to the community effectively.

We felt PTA need a partner in ensuring that services in the education sector are delivered through provision of quality teachers, learning materials, keeping the schools in good shape in terms of infrastructure,” he said.

The chairman of the Kano state chapter of the PTA, Salisu Danhassan, urged the newly inducted exco members to take the task before them as a call to service and a responsibility to improve the future of children in Kano state.
