The New Faces New Voices (NFNV) Nigeria is set to host a two-day Summit on Women’s Leadership and Financial Inclusion come May 22nd – 23rd in Kano, Nigeria. Themed: “Accelerating Women’s Financial Inclusion through the Digital Economy,” the summit aims to enhance the economic impact of women entrepreneurs through leveraging digital technologies.

The key objectives of the summit are to facilitate training on business structure, management, and visibility using digital technology for increased productivity and profitability while providing digital market access, payment solutions, and finance options for business expansion. It will also explore various opportunities within the digital economy so as to foster inclusive financial growth.

NFNV Nigeria has been instrumental in driving initiatives for women entrepreneurs through its Women’s Leadership and Financial Inclusion (WLFI) project focused on building a robust network of Nigerian women leaders and financial stakeholders to influence policies that promote economic recovery and financial inclusion for women.

The project’s success has led to the creation of a community of practice, positioning NFNV Nigeria as a leading voice in synthesizing ideas, sharing best practices, and championing women’s financial inclusion needs through tailored programs. Additionally, NFNV Nigeria has carried out evidence-based research for policy advocacy and provided gender-specific advocacy toolkits for financial stakeholders.

The Kano summit will therefore focus on consolidating WLFI’s gains thanks to the rise of digital entrepreneurship among women-owned businesses in the post-Covid-19 economy. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), women entrepreneurs could add up to $14.5 billion to e-commerce in Africa between 2025 and 2030. Yet, women still face significant sociocultural barriers, including access to basic and digital literacy, which leads to digital exclusion.

Thus, the summit aims to address these challenges by promoting the democratization of the digital economy, empowering women with access and agency to expand their businesses and increase access to financing. Participants will include women entrepreneurs, fintech representatives, financial institutions, government officials, and trade and business support institutions. The summit will also feature exhibitions, training workshops, and be convened in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual sessions.
