The African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD’s) regional media webinar series will commence with the West Africa edition come Friday, June 19, on the theme: “Communication in Africa in the time of COVID–19: Transitioning to online news and the implications thereof.”

As Africa grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the strategic work of African media, journalists, and other communications stakeholders has not been spared the impact of the pandemic. It is on this basis that the series of regional webinars to be hosted across the five regions of Africa by AUDA-NEPAD will explore how the coronavirus epidemic has impacted the media and communication landscape across the African continent.

Amongst others, AUDA-NEPAD hopes the webinar series will help increase the level of understanding of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the media landscape in Africa; explore innovative solutions to the challenges faced by African media in communicating Africa’s development during the time of COVID-19; as well as highlight AUDA-NEPAD’s interventions in response to COVID-19.

Moreover, the webinar series which will be hosted between June and August 2020, will serve as a platform for experience sharing among media stakeholders from across the continent. The maiden episode will feature the experiences of various West African countries namely Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Senegal in transitioning to online news during the pandemic.
