The Kigali, Rwanda-based Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A), an international think-tank that supports governments, civil society, businesses and academic institutions in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa, is set to host a conference marking three years since the launch of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development otherwise known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Conference which themed: “SDGs Implementation in Africa: Reflections on a Three-Year Journey” is scheduled for June 12-14 at the Kigali Convention Center in Kigali, the Rwandan capital.

“It has been three years since world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said a statement by SDGC/A. “With only twelve years left to meet the SDGs targets, this Conference will be a time to bring together all stakeholders – leaders from governments across Africa, the United Nations Agencies, bilateral institutions, international and other non-governmental organizations, universities and research institutions, civil society and the private sector to critically reflect and discuss the progress that has been made towards achieving the SDGs in Africa so far.”

Discussions at the Conference will be around the SDG Mid-Term (2015 – 2018) Review Report developed by the SDGC/A which will identify priorities for SDG implementation, determine institutional and financial gaps in implementation, and set forth pragmatic recommendations for African countries to stay on track towards the successful realization of the SDGs.

Amongst others, the Conference will feature sessions on Enhancing National Monitoring and Reporting System and Capacities for SDG Monitoring & Reporting(M&R); Revitalization of National Development Banks (NDBs) for Sustainable Development . There will also be sessions on: Strengthening National Statistical Capacity; Strengthening Coordination and SDG Results Dissemination as well as Presentation of Findings from SDG Mid-Term Review Report and a Presidential Panel and Launch of 2019 Africa SDG Index.

The SDGC/A seeks to build upon Africa’s existing successes by bringing together people, ideas, and innovation to collectively reach a more sustainable future; the forthcoming conference is also in that direction.
