The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the government of Egypt last week launched the official website of the 8th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW8) themed: “Innovations, Institutions, and People” ahead of the forthcoming event and FARA General Assembly (GA) scheduled for between 28 and 31 October, 2019, in Cairo, Egypt.
The Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW) and FARA General Assembly (GA), which is being organized every three years, presents an opportunity for all stakeholders in African agriculture, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to reflect on their achievements and develop strategies and actions aimed at enhancing the contribution of STI in agriculture towards accelerating the continent’s economic and social transformation.
“The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation [has] launched the official site of the 8th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW8) and the FARA General Assembly (GA). The event [launch of the event website] was coordinated by the Local Organizing Committee of AASW8 domiciled in the Egyptian Agricultural Research Council (ARC),” says a press statement published on AASW8`s newly launched website.
“While launching the site and registering as the first official participant for the Science Week, Professor Ezz El-Din Abusteiet, the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, conveyed the commitment of the Egyptian Government, under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdelfattah El-Sisi, to extend a helping hand to the rest of Africa in supporting Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) towards making the continent food and nutrition secure,” the statement added.
The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) is the African Union`s apex organization responsible for coordinating and advocating for Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) on the continent. Since its inception in 1997, FARA has served as the technical arm of the African Union Commission (AUC) responsible for STI and agriculture.
Please note that the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa`s 8th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW8) has now been rescheduled to hold between 15 and 18 of June, 2020, in Accra, Ghana, under the theme: “Innovations, Institutions, and People.”
