UNFPA regional director to address 2nd African Youth SDGs Summit

Mabingue Ngom, regional director for West and Central Africa at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will in November 2018, address over 1000 youth delegates from across Africa and beyond at the 2nd edition of Africa Youth SDGs Summit  in Accra, Ghana.

The 2nd edition of the summit themed: “Partnership with Youth to Achieve SDGs: Moving from Policy to Actions,” is scheduled to hold 7th – 9th November, 2018 at the Accra International Conference Center and is being hosted by Youth Advocates Ghana (YAG).

The African Youth SDGs Summit is an annual event that seeks to create a platform for “elevating African youth voices, concerns, insights and unleash the potential of the youth to play active role for cogeneration of ideas and awareness on the SDGs and Africa-2063 agenda.”

Mabingue Ngom, who is billed to be the summit’s guest speaker, is an economist, public policy expert and certified expert in change management, with over 30 years of experience in social and development policies at the national, regional and global, from Governments, NGOs and multilateral institutions.

He is famous for his campaign tagged “#PutYoungPeopleFirst” which was launched in 2016, and has already reached over 3.6 million people on social media. It is planned to be a platform for dialogue on youth inclusion and participation in Africa’s social, economic and political systems and “to reaffirm actions towards sustainable development in Africa.”

An annual event, the Summit of the African youth on the Sustainable Development Goals seeks to bring the voices, concerns and ideas of young Africans and to unleash the potential of young people to play an active role in the generation of ideas and awareness of sustainable development goals and Agenda 2063.

It would be recalled that in 2015, countries of the world agreed on the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development which seek to end poverty, ensure zero hunger, fight against inequality and injustice as well as tackle climate change towards building an egalitarian and sustainable planet. The realization of these ambitious universal goals in Africa calls for the mobilization of youths whose population is the continent’s` largest.
