Minister Kono welcomed the considerable development of Japan-Egypt relations, including the cooperation in the education sector
TOKYO, Japan, September 15, 2017,-/African Media Agency (AMA)/-On September 12, from 10 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of Arab Republic of Egypt, during his visit to Egypt. The overview is as follows.
1. In the beginning, President El-Sisi welcomed Minister Kono on his visit to Egypt, and expressed his gratitude for supports from Japan in various fields. President El-Sisi expressed his hope for the expansion of the assistance for the Japanese method of education and for the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum including its management in the future. In response, Minister Kono said that he would work hard on them.
2. Minister Kono welcomed the considerable development of Japan-Egypt relations, including the cooperation in the education sector, since President El-Sisi’s visit to Japan in February last year. Minister Kono announced that Japan is planning to provide yen loan of 18.6 billion yen as a financial assistance for the Japanese method education in which the Government of Egypt is promoting. Furthermore, Minister Kono also announced that Japan is planning to extend grant aid of approximately 1 billion yen for education and to provide research equipment at Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST).
3. Moreover, referring to the first-ever Japan-Arab Political Dialogue with Ministers of Arab states held on September 11, Minister Kono stated that Japan is willing to play more active role in stabilizing the Middle East and expressed his desire to continue working collaboratively with Egypt who is a leading power of the region. Regarding the situation in North Korea, Minister Kono explained the stance of Japan. Japan and Egypt agreed to work closely to tackle the challenges that the international community is facing, including North Korea.
