Thousands of people have been made homeless in Nigeria after security forces used bullets, tear gas and bulldozers to push them out of a waterfront slum.

Amnesty International, the rights monitor, has condemned the action by the government, calling it a brutal and illegal demolition of the Otodo-Gbame fishing community in Lagos.
