MFWA releases call for entries for 2019 West Africa Media Excellence Awards

 The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), an initiative aimed at promoting media excellence in the West African sub-region has announced call for submission of entries for the third edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) scheduled for between 18 and 19 October, 2019, in Accra, Ghana.

“The [WAMECA] Awards are opened to journalists from print, electronic and online media in Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone countries in West Africa,” says MFWA’s statement announcing the call for entries for WAMECA 2019. “An Applicant must be West African, working with and for media organizations. An Entry for the Awards must have been published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2018.”

WAMECA 2019 will honor outstanding works of journalism in West Africa in various categories; these include Telecoms Reporting, Oil and Gas Reporting, Banking and Finance Reporting, Business and SMEs Reporting. Others are Anti-Corruption Reporting, Investigative Reporting, Environmental Reporting, SDGs Reporting, Human Rights Reporting, Health Reporting, ECOWAS and Regional Integration Reporting as well as Photo Journalism.

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has overtime established itself the biggest and most influential media development and freedom of expression advocacy organization in West Africa implementing various projects around promotion of freedom of expression and media-led advocacy for peace building and more participatory and accountable democratic governance in the sub region.

WAMECA, its flagship annual event, brings together influential journalists, media executives and experts, editors, academics and freedom of expression advocates as well as high profile personalities from across the African continent to discuss the challenges of the media industry and ways to improve the performance of the media across West Africa.

The deadline for submission of entries is on June 30, 2019. All interested applicants should upload published works via the entry form on the website.
