DRC rape victims come forward with help of rights groups

Decades of fighting in Democratic Republic of Congo have left thousands of rape victims struggling to cope.

Soldiers and rebel fights are thought to have carried out most of the 50,000 recorded cases of sexual violence over the past 20 years.

Rape incidents in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo are widespread that the United Nations once described it as the “rape capital of the world”.

Now, with the help of rights groups, more women are coming forward to speak about their ordeals.
